Wall of Courage
Artist Heather Haynes created the Wall of Courage to honour 80 orphaned children in the Congo. The exhibition is both a powerful portrait series and a fundraiser for the school and orphanage that supports these children.
I’ve worked with Heather on everything from branding to web and communications, but my XR project is the latest collaboration. My role was to explore how mobile augmented reality could deepen emotional engagement and increase donations, while staying true to the spirit of the original paintings. The project was designed to expand Heather’s audience by targeting a values-driven, socially engaged public, including activists, artists, and humanitarian supporters.
I created augmented reality enhanced images, each with simple animation and audio storytelling. The goal was to evoke empathy without overwhelming the viewer or requiring advanced tech skills. UX decisions centred on clarity, ease of use, and reducing fatigue often linked to mobile AR.
Though still in development, early tests show that layering digital storytelling with physical art creates a more immersive and emotionally resonant experience, with potential to increase both audience connection and charitable support.
